Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Conqueror Challenge page.

In one of the remote schools in the Lower River Region of The Gambia some of the children walk the equivalent of 50 miles a week to get to school and back. The teachers in that school decided that it would be really helpful if all the children in that school had bicycles to get to school so they wouldn't be late or too tired in class.

I cycle 8 miles a day to get to my workplace and back, that's 40 miles per week, to walk that every day would take up a lot of my time and I don't want to be late or too tired to work. I have also started to walk 10 miles each weekend. So that's 50 miles per week, the same as some of the children I'm supporting.

I think it's great that they have so much exercise, but they often have to walk in the hot sun, and it's not always that safe. So a bicycle is going to be a great help for more than just getting to school.

It's not just remote villages in The Gambia that children have to walk a long way to school. Children in the UK living on boats have to walk a long way to school sometimes too, and children who don't live on a bus route. Not all families can afford bikes here either, so if you know any children here in need of a bike, please get in touch with The Steve Sinnott Foundation, and some of the funds I'm raising can go to support them too.

I'm aiming to raise money for about 100 bikes. Bikes for children abroad will be bought in-country to support their local economy and reduce the environmental damage caused by unnecessary transport of goods.

You can either donate money here on this Just Giving page, or buy a bicycle as a gift for someone who loves cycling on the Steve Sinnott Foundation charity gift store here: https://www.stevesinnottfoundation.org.uk/gifts/

Thank you so much for reading this, and thank you even more if you choose to support me in this challenge. To walk the length of Brittain is 1'083 miles! But if I continue to do 50 miles per week, that's perfectly doable. Some of it will be walked in respect to those who have to walk to school, and some will be cycled in the hope that more children can start cycling to school through this campaign. It's helping me to get fit, and it's helping others to get bikes. Win, win!
