Story
On the 2nd October 2022 I will be proudly running the TCS London Marathon, eeek!!!
Over this time I will be raising money for Pilgrims Hospice in memory of my gramps Nick Turner who sadly passed away from cancer in February 2020 and was cared for by the team at Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury at the end of his life.
Gramps
A local legend of Whitstable through his extensive work with the Labour Party, gramps was always putting everyone before himself and even in his final weeks never wanted to make a fuss despite how poorly he was. Gramps was only in the hospice for less than 12 hours but those 12 hours were made a hell of a lot easier by the incredible team. We were so lucky as a family to have the support of the doctors, nurses, admin and reception staff who ensured we knew exactly what was going on at all times, what to do and where they were when we needed them at any point throughout the day but also respecting our privacy. The lovely team made sure all 10 of us were fed and watered when we didn't want to leave the room and gave us all the time we needed. The hospice will always have a special place in our hearts for the way they treated him with dignity and us with compassion not only on that day but the weeks following with the support they provide.
Running
I started running shortly after gramps had passed and when COVID first started in March 2020, starting with couch to 5k. I soon realised how much I benefited from 'runners high' and slowly started to build myself up to longer distances. In 2021 I joined Tankerton Running Group and have since started to attend races both locally and in London. Marathon training certainly isn't going to be easy but I'm lucky to have a fantastic support system with my running team, colleagues, friends and family.
Thank You
THANK YOU SO MUCH to every single person who donates, no matter how big or small. I cannot explain how blessed I feel to be given the opportunity to do something I love so much for a charity so close to mine and my families hearts. The Pilgrims Hospice Team are invaluable in supporting families like mine and thousands of others; with your donations they can continue the fantastic work they do and support they provide.
I will be arranging fundraising events including a quiz night, raffle and of course a few fun runs so keep an eye on my Facebook and Instagram for all the updates on how we can raise money!
