Story
At the end of 2012, mine and Claire's beloved grandma, Vanessa DeFelice, suffered a life changing stroke. It was only at that point we realised just how much of an impact suffering a stroke can have on, not only our grandma's life, but also on her immediate family and those close to her. Nevertherless, even though Vanessa Nanny's life had been completely transformed by the stroke (Vanessa Nanny had lost all independence, suffered an irreversible hemiplegia paralysis, suffered from pneumonia and chest infections, and stayed in St.Peter's hospital for the first three months of 2013) Vanessa Nanny always remained positive and happy, and never let it affect her caring personailty and character.
Unfortunately on the 21st November 2013, Vanessa Nanny suffered a fatal stroke. This was a massive shock to the whole of our family and very upsetting, as such a vibrate and cheerful character in our family was no longer with us.
Every year approximately 152,000 individuals will suffer from a stroke in the UK, equating to nearly 1 every 5 minutes. The damage caused by a stroke can be wide spread and long lasting, dramatically affecting the sufferers quality of life.
The research funded by the Stroke Association has the ultimate aim of making strokes preventable and treatable, and improving the quality of life for people affected by a stroke.
It is so that, hopefully, in the future less people have to suffer the horrendus ordeal of losing a dear loved one to a stroke that Claire and I are raising money for the Stroke Association.
