Story
I have always had the ambition to help and support a local charity. I have applied several times over the the last few years, so when I got the acceptance email from the Great North Run in February, I was a little shocked!
After procrastinating for the last few months (in denial) I have finally started the inevitable training for the 13.109375 miles (to be exact) and wearing in the trainers.
The local charity I have chosen is one that I have been following over the years from when they started. The Robin Cancer Trust www.therobincancertrust.org, raise awareness of the symptoms of Germ cell cancer, specifically testicular and ovarian cancers especially between the ages of 16-35. They are the only dedicated Germ Cell charity, who are dedicated to education, information and awareness.
Sadly school friend Toby Freeman the director and founder of the charity lost his brother aged 24 to testicular cancer back in 2011. The charity hopes to spread the information and remove any embarrassment felt by talking about symptoms.
