London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
On October 2nd 2022, I will be running the London Marathon in support of my beautiful best friend who is heartbreakingly affected by Huntington’s Disease.
Ruby’s Mum is one of the rare few people who is affected by the brain disorder. It is caused by a defective gene that breaks down nerve cells. It causes a multitude of cognitive, movement and psychiatric disorders. This disease is progressive, meaning deterioration is apparent every single day.
HD has been a huge part of Ruby’s life since she was 15, her Grandad sadly died from the disease and her aunty Kathy now at just age 59 is in the late stages of it too. Ruby finds it incredibly difficult to watch her Mum deteriorate and her independence fade daily.
I will be running the London Marathon to spread awareness for HD and also raise as much money as possible to help with research, provide care and support for people affected/their families and help find a cure. We are SO hopeful and keeping positive for the clinical trials that are taking place.
I am so incredibly proud of you Ru, the bravest, strongest and most inspirational person. Despite HD, she faces the world smiling, always. By raising money, we can make a change to raise awareness, promote understanding, increase opportunities for treatment and help people be kinder to those with HD. Any donations are HUGELY appreciated. Thank you🥺💚
