We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

  • Ed is my baby brother. In March 2011 our family was devastated when, with an hb of 4, a spleen the size of a football, aches, pains and nightsweats Ed was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. At 34 Ed’s life hadn’t really begun! He started a gruelling regime of chemotherapy which continued for a straight 7 months, until his cancer abated! He went into remission. We relaxed. Normal life recommenced.
  • March 2015  Ed rang us from outside his work to say he was acutely breathless , could we pick him up, he was worried that his cancer had returned. I reassured him that this couldn’t possibly be the case!……but it was. The lymphoma was back. It was so frightening. This time Ed underwent a much more aggressive treatment programme with further chemo and  the added complications of a PE, anaphylactic shock and a spell in complete isolation whilst he underwent a stem cell transplant. Harrowing to endure, harrowing to watch. We were so lucky, Ed was so lucky. He went back into remission November 2015 and he started to rebuild his life again.
  • Ed has gone from strength to strength. Marrying the gorgeous Bryony in 2019, deemed in complete remission in 2020 and recently becoming The Dog Father!  With the arrival of Monty Dog.

Without research, without these treatments, without the revolutionary stem cell transplant Ed would not be around to celebrate the joys of love, marriage and walking the dog.

I’m so so glad he’s still here, to give me lifts, kick autumn leaves, pick up dog poo and generally live life to the full! To celebrate Ed’s cancer survival I will be running the London marathon in April 2024. 13 years since Ed’s first blood cancer diagnosis. Please support me by sponsoring my run to raise money for Blood Cancers UK before my knees give in.

Since I started training for this marathon I have run in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10k, The Guy Fawkes 10 miler, The Round Sheffield 12 miles, the Harewood half marathon, the Barcelona Half Marathon, The Grim Up North 20 mile canal canter. Plus loads of long and short runs to support my training, please help to help my choose charity. Every little bit helps and I would really like to honour my place, and smash my target. !

We're a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. We do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, our community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
