The dreads are coming off (after 22 years!) · 20 December 2019

We provide specialist services to women and girls who have experienced an form of sexual violence at any time in their lives. Our services cover Tyne & Wear and Northumberland and are for all women and girls. We also raise awareness of the true nature, impact & prevalence of sexual violence

Story

So...on 20 Dec 2019, after 22 years the dreads are finally coming off! Aged 16 and heavily inspired by the women with dreads in bands I adored as a 15-year-old (L7 and The Slits!) I decided that was the hairdo for me.

Now I'm (whispers...) 38 I'd like to not spend 2 hours drying my hair on the radiator (true story) and a mixture between lifestyle and alopecia, the timing is right!

In doing so I hope to raise a few quid for an amazing charity in the North East, Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland. Please dig deep and support this charity at a time where women's services are drastically underfunded and still essential.

Looking forward to the head scrubs and woolly hat gifts ;) The lovely gang at Hair Mechanics, Newcastle and my best pals will be doing the chopping...photos and tears to follow...Thanks :)
