Story
I'm Lucy and I'm a medical doctor training to be a cancer specialist (oncologist). I am also interested in cancer research particularly cancer genetics - I am currently studying for a PhD at the University of Cambridge looking at sequencing cancer DNA in the blood.
Those with Jewish ancestry (including myself) are at increased risk of genetic disorders including genes that can predispose to cancer as well as a number of autosomal recessive disorders.
Jnetics is a registered charity dedicated to improving the prevention and diagnosis of Jewish genetic disorders in the UK.
I really enjoy volunteering for Jnetics each year as a screening advisor in their University Screening week and am excited (and nervous) to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London this October to raise money to help continue their wonderful work.
