My Nanny Gwenny was one of my favourite people in my life, she was kind, witty and so just amazing. My nanny passed away due to lung cancer in 2016 at 73. I was 12. Looking back there is so much she has missed, she has missed her 2 grandchildren growing up, and I hate that she will miss so much more.
Gwenneviere Baughen in her prime worked as a seamstress and a nurse within hospitals for the elderly and those suffering with their mental health. Going into children’s nursing I like to think I’m following in her footsteps, but I hate so much that she isn’t here to see that. So I want to raise money. Raise money so that many young people like me are able to spend time with their loved ones, and those elders are able to live their lives without cancer, without such a limitation. So people are able to watch their families grow, be able to be in it for a longer run and enjoy life without the threat of cancer and disease.
I’m walking for my Nan, for all the moments, difficult and amazing that I wanted to hug her but couldn’t. So others don’t have to go through that difficulty. I’m walking so you can hug your loved ones for longer, spend time with them. Because together we will beat cancer.
