Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If you know me you will already know I walk a lot. Most of my walks are at Attenborough Nature Reserve where I have been visiting since my childhood. I make no secret of the fact that my walks with my dog, Molly, have been instrumental in dealing and managing the stresses of single parenting and everyday life in these busy times, it's my sanctuary. Over the last 40 years I've seen the reserve develop from an unkept car park where we fed the ducks and ate ice cream to a managed site with pathways, a nature centre, cafe and event space attracting over 500,000 visitor a year. Covering 200 hectares of wetland, woodland and grassland the reserve is also famous for Kingfisher sightings, starling murmurations, over 450 plant species, 400 moth species, 160 bird species and 100 species of hoverfly. It's a pretty special place for many people.

In 2019 the future of Attenborough Nature Reserve came under threat when the owners, Cemex, decided to sell the land after the sand and gravel extraction that began in the 1920's ceased operation in 2016. In order to secure the reserve an appeal was launched in November to raise £1 million to buy it, this amount is needed before the end of January in order for the reserve to be managed, maintained and developed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. The appeal is supported by Sir David Attenborough who's grandfather, father and mother were born nearby and has also been backed by high profile locals such as Sir Paul Smith and Sat and Amanda Bains and through generous donations, thankfully, the target is almost within reach.

My challenge will begin January 1st 2020 and finish on March 31st 2020. I will not have completed my million steps in time for this deadline sadly however any amount I am able to raise will go directly to Attenborough to support the continuing hard work the team at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust do so well. Any donationhowever small, would be greatly appreciated - after all a million steps in 3 months is a long way !

Thank you for helping me help Attenborough.
