Saint Francis Hospice is a leading provider of palliative care for people living in Havering, Brentwood, Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham. We care for people from 18 years of age, of any race or religion, who have a life limiting illness due to cancer, heart disease, motor neurone disease or respiratory disease and we provide physical, spiritual and emotional care and support to patients and their families.

Story

I'm taking part in the Polar Bear Challenge, which is to swim 200m in open-water twice a month from November to March, in skins (no wetsuit)! The water temperature is 12 degrees and lower, so it's pretty chilly!

With the lakes being closed currently due to the Covid-19 restrictions, I will have to explore some other options like sea and river swimming. I'm determined to finish this challenge!

Saint Francis Hospice have always been a charity close to my heart, since they looked after my Nan in 2001. They are an independent charity and one of the largest adult hospices in the UK. Their team of specialist consultants, doctors and nurses provide care and support to individuals with a life-limiting illness, as well as their carers and family members, completely free of charge.
