Story

Well this is clearly hilarious, because as any of my friends will know I avoid any kind of organised exercise, in fact I haven’t done any since school (and even then I would skive as often as possible, First Aid or horse riding anyone?!!) However as my usual forms of exercise are walking everywhere due to not having a driving licence, and shaking my butt at The Buck on a Saturday night, and these are currently unavailable due to the fact I’ve barely left the house in a year due to the PANDEMIC, combined with the fact that I can’t get back up off the floor after filling the fridge up from online deliveries, I thought now was about time to do something about. Plus that birthday we’re not mentioning happened. So thanks to Kidney Beam I am going to attempt to complete 850 movement minutes, classes are 40 minutes long so that works out...someone else do the maths? Kidney Beam is a platform for online exercise classes which are currently free for Kidney patients like me thanks to a grant from Kidney Research UK.

For those that don’t know, my kidneys failed in 2002 due to Acute Kidney Injury following C section when Isabel was born. I had 9 months of emergency dialysis and then staggered along for 15 years on around 20% kidney function. In 2017 John donated his kidney to me at Manchester Royal Infirmary - we are forever grateful to our surgeon Mr Tavakoli (who nicknamed “The Ferrari”)  and his team.

Now that you have completed that epic read, get your wallet out. Times are hard but if you can spare even 85p it would make a difference. Kidney Research UK helped us out when I was on dialysis and things were really tough, now I’d like to pay it forward - thank you for helping!
