Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
My godson Harry is 7 years old, and is just as happy, funny and clever as any other 7 year old around. However Harry has been through so much for a child his age, as he has Cerebral Palsy, which causes severe weakness and stiffness of the muscles in his legs. He can't stand up on his own, and is unable to walk without his walking frame and an adult to help him. A lot of the time he has to use a wheelchair. He loves school, but isn't able to join in with his friends when it comes to physical things in the playground or PE.
Harry has been approved to have a life-changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which is not yet available on the NHS. This is not a cure for CP, but it will make a huge difference to his life. It will reduce his spasticity, enabling him to strengthen his legs, walk better and move around with more ease.
Harry's recovery will be a long journey, but hopefully in the long run it will help him to be more independent, to live without pain, and to rely on a wheelchair less in the future.
As a Children's Physio I work with children who have CP every day, and I have seen first hand the incredible difference SDR can make. The fact that this could benefit Harry is just amazing and I'm determined to help him reach raise every penny he needs!
So, I have spontaneously decided to run the FOD half marathon in just 6 weeks! I'm nowhere near running that sort of distance, but with every step training and on the day I'll be thinking of Harry and the effort he puts into everything!
Please PLEASE sponsor me if you can, as this is so important to me, and my life long friend Sasha (Harry's mum) and most importantly for Harry!
Thank you! xxxxxxxxxx
