Story
In October I will be climbing Himlung Himal (7,126m)! A mountain close to the Tibetan border in a very remote corner of Nepal. It is one of the lesser climbed peaks, having been climbed for the first time in 1992 and whilst not the most technical of mountains, it does require extraordinary fitness (both physically and mentally) and is known for being extremely cold with big winds. I will be climbing in a group of 4 supported by a strong sherpa team and using a series of base camps and high camps to achieve the summit.
Those who know me well, will know that I am obsessed with mountains and exploring extreme environments but that I am also very passionate about social mobility and supporting young people, particularly via the power of mentoring. I wanted to use this expedition as a platform to raise awareness and funds for The Kids Network who I mentor with. I first came across the charity when I saw one of their slogans "Be the person you needed growing up". I think this is such a powerful message and illustrates perfectly what mentoring and giving back is all about.
100% of donations will go to the charity (and not towards the costs of the expedition). Any amount you can donate will be much appreciated.
The Kids Network
The Kids Network supports children at a crucial time in their lives, in the lead up to and often during the transition from primary into secondary school. We do this by providing them with a volunteer mentor, a local hero from their London community.
We work with primary schools across London who refer children who may be facing additional challenges in their young lives and could benefit from a one to one mentoring relationship. Our volunteer mentors provide a sense of fun and stability for our mentees to explore their identity and express themselves in a safe environment.
The charity is very much in need of mentors and if you are interested please do reach out to me!
