Story
I am running the London Marathon with Alzheimer's Society because I want to give back and be an ambassador. I have lost 2 grandparents to Alzheimer's related issues and feel that this is the perfect opportunity to run in their memory and for so many other people that are affected. I have attempted to enter the marathon for the last 10 years - unsuccessfully through the ballot! - and made a promise to my Grandma that I would run in her name, and for my late Gramps too. She unfortunately passed away in September and feel that entering the marathon for next year presents a significant opportunity for me to celebrate their lives, whilst also celebrating many more.
I am a keen advocate for changing lives and helping others and I really enjoy giving back to my local community. I work as a fundraiser for a youth arts charity and prioritise making the arts and opportunities accessible for everyone. Similarly to running the marathon on behalf of Alzheimer's society, I want to continue giving back and reaching as many people as possible. Obviously running and completing a marathon is a fantastic life achievement and requires perseverance, training and motivation, all of which I will dedicate to this process and Alzheimer's society.
Participating in the London Marathon would be a huge personal achievement/challenge too. Over the past few years I have completed the Ride London 100 mile cycle and Swim Serpentine 2 mile swim, adding the marathon would allow me to complete the London classics.
Above all however, I want to run for Alzheimer's Society to raise awareness and promote everything that they do. It is important and imperative to continue the great work, so to expand the legacies of so many people for the future. I want to continue to help bring the charity to public consciousness and can therefore feel incredibly proud to be contributing towards that.
Every three minutes, someone develops dementia. We can beat it, but we cant do it alone. Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted in their community. Every penny you donate is making sure we can be there for people affected by dementia.
£100 - Give access to the Carer Information and Support Programme. When families are unsure or struggling, this programme can make the world of difference. By understanding how to care for a loved one most effectively, both the carer and the person with dementia can be happier at home.
£160 - Provide a Singing for the brain session. Singing for the Brain can bring a wealth of benefits to people living with dementia. From expressing themselves through their favourite songs, to getting some gentle exercise through dance, it's a great way to spend time in a group setting. A good session can leave you feeling uplifted long after the final notes are played.
