The Great West Run · 1 May 2011
Hi everyone, thanks for taking time out to read our page.
On Sunday 1st May 2011 we are taking part in the Great West Run (Half Marathon) for Rowcroft Hospice. Luke has Cerebral Palsy which means that Martyn & Scot will be pushing him round the course. It is going to be a tough run so we will be putting a lot of time and effort into our preparations. Luke is also aiming to walk aided with a frame over the finish line. By the end of our fundraising and run, we will have hoped to have raised around £3,000 (hopefully).
We have decided to support Rowcroft because it is a local charity that is close to our hearts and is especially significant to Martyn who lost his dad two years ago to Pancreatic and Liver Cancer. He had a short but horrific battle against this disease. For the last 3-4 weeks of his life, he spent his days mostly under sedation at Rowcroft Hospice. The care and support which Rowcroft and their staff gave to Martyn, his relatives and friends was beyond words, it was second to none. It is not until you are affected by an event like this, you realise what Rowcroft is and the unbelievable work which goes on there.
To raise as much money as possible, we have been in contact with Laura Cameron who is part of Rowcroft’s fundraising department and she will be supplying us with running vests, donation tins and buckets to help us on our way.
We have also contacted the Herald Express who have said they will do an article on us every now and then to help promote our challenge, raise public awareness and give anyone the opportunity to sponsor us on this Just Giving Page, if they would like to. Every little would help towards the fantastic work that the Hospice does which often goes unrecognised.
