Oxford to Paris transplant bike ride · 12 June 2013

Story

In 2009, aged 29,  I was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure. I spent 6 weeks on dialysis but was very lucky that my father was willing and able to donate a kidney to me and following my transplant in 2010 I am now fitter than ever before.

We are both cycling 430km from Oxford to Paris to raise money for young people with kidney failure. We also want show that anything is possible after a transplant whether you have received or donated a kidney.

Three people die unnecessarily in the UK every day while they wait for an organ.

The Oxford Young Adult Clinic (YAC) provided great support to me. It helps teenagers and young adults on dialysis and with kidney transplants.

Needing kidney dialysis as a teenager leads to depression and social isolation and difficulty completing education and getting a job.

Through community clinics, social events and 1 to 1 support the Oxford YAC helps young people deal with their kidney disease and get on with their lives.

A really useful tool is the British and World Transplant Games where young transplant patients can be inspired with new confidence as they participate in a transplant Olympics with peers.

We are raising money to help continue to support teenagers and young adults with kidney failure through the Oxford YAC and Transplant Games.

Please help change the lives of these young people and provide them with a bright future.
