10 willing engineers have volunteered to take up the Total Warrior Challenge to support their colleague & friend James Simpson, Vicky his wife and daughter Hollie, who are currently receiving invaluable support in Hollies fight for recovery from this charity Here is their story so far..... At 22 weeks into the pregnancy they found out that their little girl had a serious heart condition. They were given an option to terminate the pregnancy or have palliative care surgery rebuilding her heart blood flow. They continued with the pregnancy and Hollie was born on 05/01/22 weighing 6lb 3 oz James & Vicky never got to hold their new born as she was taken away and sent for surgery almost straight away. Less than 24 hrs into the world Hollie was in surgery for a 10 hr operation. They were told the surgery was a complex one as they were re plumbing a tiny heart that supplies all her organs and brain, this creating a new circulation. The operation odds were given was a 80% chance of working and a 50/50 chance of recovery due to how complex it is Hollie is still in intensive care and will be until she can breathe without the ventilator, Then she can be transferred to a lower dependency ward. Hollie will still be in the danger zone until she receives her next operation at 4 to 6 months, Called the glen surgery. Hopefully then we will see a big improvement in her oxygen saturations. Hollie will always be classed has high risk due to her heart condition and will require, a further surgery called the Fontan at 4 years old and may more small procedures over the years The charity have played a huge part in supporting them through this time and have been invaluable.
