Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

PRESENTATION EVENING - Ilfracombe Yacht Club on Friday 23rd October at 8pm. All welcome to attend. For more information contact Ian on 01271 325270 - thanks.

We have uploaded our video for you to see the event in progress. We are still hoping to raise lots of money for Little Bridge House so please still donate. Thanks to you all - the team.

Update: Yes - they did it. The team set off on Saturday 15th August in what was very rough sea conditions. We arrived on Lundy by around 5pm - except Bruce who was travelling on Ventura - yes he was late in. The boys made sure he would be able to eat at the Marisco though.

The team discussed the conditions during Saturday evening on the island. They where very anxious and praying that the weather would improve by Sunday morning.

At exactly  8.10am the team set off on their challenging swim. The sea was rough in places and  the swimmers all made it safely to Woolacombe at exactly 3.10pm. A total of 7 hours to complete this extreme challenge.

Thank you to all who supported this event and we will be annoucing a presentation evening very soon at the Ifracombe Yacht Club - without the yacht clubs support and that of Bristol Channel Charters (Better Days) and Rudi Lancaster we would not have been able to complete this challenge.

Well done - many new friendships have been formed and lots of money has been raised for Little Bridge House. If you have not donated yet - please donate using this page.

Update: Everyone is training hard and we are all hoping that the conditions prove favourable. Please see our new video by clicking on the video link at the side of this page. Thanks to Richard at www.wavedreamer.co.uk and all at Bristol Channel Charters.

Update: We had our press launch today.....(Thurs 30th July)....and Westcountry TV/ North Devon Gazette and Advertiser / Western Morning News/ Heart FM/ BBC Radio Devon and North Devon Journal all turned up to support us and report on our challenge for the hospice.

The LUNDY SWIM is our attempt at a first... The first relay swim crossing from Lundy to Woolacombe … No-one has swum this stretch of water previously. We're doing it because we all want a challenge, and we recognise that not everyone is as fortunate as us … we have our health and often take that for granted. For the children at Children's Hospice South West, everyday is a challenge, but one they take on with the sort of optimism we can learn a lesson from. So on Sunday August 16th 2009*, our team of 4 swimmers will set off from Lundy, aiming for the sands of Woolacombe Beach. A distance of 21 miles as the crow flies, at least equivalent to the crossing the English Channel … only with deeper water and faster currents. As well as establishing a 'first crossing', we are aiming to raise £10,000 for the Children's Hospice South West.

We started this adventure a year ago, since then we've trained in the pool and the sea with the intent of building the stamina we all need to be able to swim our personal leg of the relay. Our team is being built to succeed - we're under the watchful eye of Business Edge Solutions, a corporate management consultancy as well as having the back up of great sponsors such as: SaltRock, our favourite local surf company, Gatorade, the energy drink, and SailFish wetsuits. At sea we'll be supported by Bristol Channel Charters, Rudi Lancaster and Ilfracombe Yacht Club - their generosity will ensure we have all the boats we need. By all accounts there's a party at The Red Barn in Woolacombe once we hit dry land too… Angus will be pulling pints a plenty, as we'll have a fair thirst on us by then! We have all we need to make this adventure a reality - but we still need your support!

Send us a donation, we're swimming in excess of 21 miles so please support the cause, come along to the Red Barn afterwards and catch up with us all. You can follow the swim live on the 16th*, we will be uploading photos from our support boat during the swim, so no matter where you are, you can join us for the event. Check back here for more information on this …

Join us in the hope for fair winds and clear skies for the 16th August. The team, (Bruce, Paul, Jon, John and Simon) all thank you in advance for your support.

Best wishes,

The Lundy Swim team.

*If bad weather affects the 16th, we plan to swim on the 30th August as a contingency, should this be unsafe, we will swim the distance in the pool to justify your kind donations.
