Story

Thanks for visiting our page. Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF) is a growing community of patients, families, researchers and healthcare professionals striving to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis so that everyone affected by the disease has a better future. They provide personalised support to patient and families - and raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis through campaigning, fundraising and education. They are also committed to funding research to improve the quality of life for people living with pulmonary fibrosis today and tomorrow.

Raising awareness and fundraising for a cure of progressive lung scarring is close to our hearts having lived with and cared for mum while she suffered with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis right until the end when it killed her at just 66 August 2020. She was always active and never smoked. There are thousands of people incredibly frightened every day as we were and don't want anyone else to go through the traumatic experience we have had, feeling totally helpless. There is no cure, only 2 drugs may slow progression but not available to all. Lung transplant is unsuitable for many. As scarring progresses it becomes harder to eat, drink, move, talk, breathe and necessary to wear nasal tubing or mask connected to oxygen all of the time even in bed which means you become housebound and eventually bed bound.

Why not enter our Art Competition for something fun to do during lockdown while raising money for charity. Opens 1st Feb 2021 and closes 26th April 2021. Joanne Boon Thomas experienced artist and tutor will select winners who will be announced 1st week of May and winning entries shared on social media unless specified otherwise.

To Enter:

1. Create your artwork using materials of your choice (e.g. painting, pencil/pen and ink drawing)

2. Each entry costs £5, you can donate here. Please specify the name of the entrant so we can check who has entered. As this is a competition please don't select gift aid

3. Take a photo of your artwork and email to lungscarring@gmail.com include the name of the entrant, category, contact details so we can notify the winner. If you prefer you can post your artwork to PF Drawing Competition, PO BOX 796, Wigan, WN1 9UY. Regrettably we can't return any artwork sent by post.
