Story
Katie is, without a doubt, the most inspiring girl we’ll ever know.
Just two months after turning 22, still at university, she was diagnosed with breast cancer - the youngest person in the Northwest of England. Within four months of her initial surgery and first chemotherapy treatment, she found out the cancer had spread to her bones and was resting on her spine and clavicle. With a new treatment plan and an unbelievable amount of courage and determination, she tried another type of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, exactly one year later, tumours were detected in her brain.
Katie has fought tirelessly for 4 long years, with the help of countless consultants, oncologists and surgeons who have worked with her through every stage of her journey. She continues to live life with a sense of purpose and overwhelming optimism, despite the feeling of utter disbelief that comes with this type of diagnosis. Unfortunately, the growing tumours in her brain have meant the threat of seizures are a daily occurrence, and the steroids she needs to take are making this an uphill battle.
Over this time, she has focused on raising money for a variety of charities: Alder Hey, Barnardos, Breast Cancer Care, Cancer Research, Clatterbridge, Clic Sargent, MacMillan, Marie Curie, TYAC, and, the one that is closest to her heart, The Marina Dalglish Appeal. While Katie is fighting to recover, we would like to help her raise funds for this amazing cause - http://www.marinadalglishappeal.org/
In November, we will be embarking on a 12 day trek to Everest Base Camp. We will climb to an altitude of 5550m, with a round-trip distance of 130km. It will be a tough challenge, but incomparable to the mountain Katie, and so many others, have had to climb.
Sadly this is not an isolated story. Most people today have been affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly. This is an opportunity to invest in better research and better care, in order to help both the current and future generation of sufferers of this awful disease. Please give anything you can afford to a great cause and help us, help them, make a difference.
Thank you.
