In May 2023, Lyndon, Denys and Dave will be taking on the Carten 100, cycling 100+ miles in a day, between Cardiff and Tenby. We will join around 2000 other riders, rain or shine, to complete this mammoth cycle challenge. Fortunately, the Carten100's motto is:
“It is a challenge, never a race”
The three amateur cyclists will be raising funds for Larsen's Pride. Larsen's Pride was established in 2021, in memory of Lyndon's son, Larsen Roberts, who had a rare brain cancer and died aged 5. Larsen was all of the things you want from a child; kind, happy, caring, thoughtful, funny, clever. He was Lyndon's super hero. He underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for his cancer, which ultimately killed him. Something which no child should have to experience.
Sadly, around 600 children every year are diagnosed with a brain cancer. Their childhood is stripped away from them and they have to undergo the same things Larsen did. Such is the lack of funding and research in this area, around 88% of children diagnosed with brain cancer in 2023 will die within 5 years.
Larsen's Pride don't do research or find cures. They exist to improve the lives of the children who are living with brain cancer today. The ones who won't benefit from the research happening right now. They gift big cat soft toys to children, to provide comfort and companionship when undergoing harsh treatments. They also support parents, hospitals and clinicians to keep sight of being a child, whilst living with brain cancer, by providing resources, training and advocacy for the youngest children with brain cancer. In 2023, Larsen’s Pride will develop and animation and resources to support children to undergo radiotherapy, deliver lectures to trainee radiographers and provide resources for professionals treating children across England and Wales.
So, if you can, please spare a few pounds to spur on Denys, Dave and Lyndon and help support the work Larsen's Pride do in the process.
