For me deciding on a head shave was easy! Anyone that knows me, will know that my hair certainly makes me noticeable “you know the one with the curly hair"…… but it’s coming off and all for charity!
In April 2007 my dear friend Lucy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and rushed to RD&E Haematology Centre in Exeter – the news shook my world. This is where she remained for 3 months enduring various treatments including intensive chemotherapy. How can this be happening? Lucy was 34, fit and well but happen it did. As I watched her suffer, without complaining, I was struck by how indiscriminate the illness is and how helpless we remain in so many cases. I am shaving my hair off to honour her extraordinary bravery and to support the vital work ELF does to improve the lives of all patients with blood conditions whilst supporting families affected by blood disorders and cancers, across the South West.
I am very happy to say that 10 years on Lucy has fully recovered. She has a wonderful husband who has supported her all the way and together they have gone on to have two wonderful sons.
The event is taking place at the Thirsty Farmer pub in Whimple near Exeter, on 16 September 2017 in the afternoon.
