Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·

Dravet Syndrome UK is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults living with Dravet Syndrome through medical research, education and awareness and appropriate support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After I completed the London Marathon in April I needed a new challenge & decided to enter the Great North Run, which is a half marathon. I thought I needed a bit more of a challenge than "just" a half marathon so entered the Forest of Dean Half marathon too. And then entered the Worcester 10k as a local "training" run.

So I will be running 50K/ 33 miles( plus training runs) in September, in aid of Dravet Syndrome UK.

Dravet Syndrome is a life-limiting form of epilepsy which usually shows itself in the first year of life in otherwise healthy babies. So at a time when parents should be enjoying the amazing mile-stones that young babies make, parents with babies who have Dravet Syndrome spend their time seeing neurologists and paediatricians and worrying about the future.

It affects 1:19,000 babies.

The money I raise will go towards funding medical research into the cause of the syndrome, raising awareness and understanding among medical professionals and providing practical, financial and emotional support to families.

As a mum of 3 (now grown-up children) and someone who works with new families I know how vital support is in general as a new parent. When there are extra needs this support is even more important.

Please give if you can. It will all help.
