We are doing 30 things throughout June to support Parkinson's Disease research at the University of Sheffield. Our researchers are leading the way in developing personalised treatments for Parkinson's Disease.

Story

An update to my story. On Saturday 6th June my beloved Mother in Law Edith died, she had been ill for some time and in the last week we had managed to get her home from hospital so that we could be with her.  Edith had stayed with us prior to going into hospital and had often got involved with the classes (from the settee!!). She was really supportive of the 30 day challenge and had sponsored me right at the start. She requested that there be no flowers at the funeral but that donations be made to Parkinsons Research via this event. If Edith's family members and friends would like to donate then please just follow the links on this page. We will not be able to meet at the funeral due to Covid-19 restrictions but are hoping to hold a celebration of Edith's life later in the year so hopefully we will be able to meet family members and friends then.

As you may know, during lockdown while I have been furloughed from my job as a fitness instructor at Sport Sheffield and SIV, I have been inviting friends to join me in fitness classes online. During the 30 days of June I will be doing (at least) 30 classes so please join me if you can for one, two, three - or all of them if you want to!!!     I also need your help with the classes so  please suggest an exercise or movement that we can do 30 times or for 30 seconds for each class - don’t worry I won’t ask you to demonstrate unless you want to!!!  You don’t have to come to the classes to make suggestions (and we will give any suggestions a good try!!) and you don’t have to come to the classes to donate. Parkinson’s Research is an amazing cause. Two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease every hour, that's 18,000 people every year. Causing a huge loss of physical movement and uncontrollable tremors, the disease will affect 145,000 people in the UK alone in 2020. A friend of mine has been suffering from Parkinson’s for several years but recently underwent an operation called Deep Brain Stimulation which has really helped to ease his symptoms and massively improved his quality of life. However, there is a very limited number of operations available each year and these operations only allow suffers to cut back on their medication so buying them some more time.  There is no cure for Parkinson’s at present. New treatments are needed to stop Parkinson's in its tracks.Your donations will support this important work, helping our researchers to lead the way in developing new treatments for Parkinson's Disease.
