Ian was diagnosed with an incurable sarcoma in July 2018. His tumour affected his ability to breathe and eat as well as causing distressing palpitations. At the time of diagnosis, these symptoms had become severely incapacitating, he was extremely weak and virtually housebound. Things changed once we met Ian's Macmillan nurse. The Macmillan team provided a wide range of support from relieving Ian's physical symptoms and organising the equipment that would give Ian back some of his independence (crucially numerous trips to PC World!). They provided important legal and financial advice and helped support us to talk about Ian's final wishes. Their input added some quality back into Ian's final months which meant he was able to continue to do the things he loved from coastal 'walks', trips to the Lakes, gaming, listening to new music, watching films and a couple of Sunderland home games.
Ian was a much loved husband, son, brother and uncle and is hugely missed by all his family. We are taking part in this challenge to raise funds in his memory to help others who find themselves needing similar support.
