Story
Every weekend during lock down, these kids have been completing a scavenger hunt. They are walking further each week without complaining.
This started as something to do for four of my grandchildren. I couldn’t spend time with them due to lock down and it was getting more difficult to find things to talk about with them from afar. By the second week three more families came on board and now there are 7 families involved in these weekly scavenger hunts. All arrangements are made via group chat.
The families have 100 cards to collect with their symbol on e.g. a rainbow, a heart, a bee or a flower. During each week on our daily exercise, a couple of us have gone out and mapped out a new walk, we have found places around our local countryside that we never knew
existed! On these planning walks we also take photos of things of interest, the more obscure the better. These are provided to each family on an A4 card and they have to find these things on route and take a photo of themselves with the subject. They then load them up
onto the group chat for the scores.
Due to social distancing four adults go out in advance on the day to lay the trail and the kids follow behind half an hour apart in their family groups with their parents. The younger kids love having the trail to follow. The older ones like finding the pictures. The dads are very competitive!
It was suggested last week that we could maybe raise some money by doing a sponsored scavenger hunt. After discussion a decision was made to support a local charity who due to the lock down are missing out on their normal fundraising events. We have decided to support Hastings and Bexhill Mencap. Their mission is to improve the lives and opportunities of local people with a learning disability, their families and carers.
Please support these kids as they are all amazing and help us raise as much as possible for this local charity. Thank you.
