FUND RAISING TARGET REACHED !!!!!! 26th July
Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for Jim,Ed and George's Big Bike Ride. We are pleased that our Bike Ride has been supported by so many people which has enabled us to reach our revised increased target of £1250.
We think there's a bit more money to come so feel free still to donate the odd thousand or two.!!
On Sunday 19th June we were amongst 27,000 riders who completed the 56 miles from London to Brighton. It was a memorable experience and somewhat different from what we had imagined as we had to think as well as ride !!
The number of riders called for maximum concentration to avoid collisions throughout the ride, especially in the busy roads as we left London and on the final approach to Brighton. The trees out in the country provided welcome shade and helpful locals sprayed us with hoses and water guns as temperatures were around 30 degrees.
George, not dressed as a Penguin and misunderstanding the team plan, led the way and bombed it to Brighton with just a couple of stops and no food. Julian went along steadily and was described as "very good for a man of his age".
Athers and Ed were extremely fast on downhills - 45 mph does terrify the marshalls - and finished strongly.
Champagne, strawberries and pizza were kindly provided by the back up team of Lewis and Beverley Kent, Kathy, Dave and Daniel.Without them our ride would have been impossible.
We are raising money principally for the Street Academy in Accra,Ghana where one of our friends Tom Cousins worked during his gap year and for a boatbuilding project to help the villages devastated by the tsunami on the south coast of Sri Lanka.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. By using the registered charity Oakley Holidays to receive the donations, we will receive an extra 28 pence for every £1 donated, through the Gift Aid scheme, provided you are a taxpayer.
You will see that many of our supporters have used this method and the extra tax is a significant part of our total.
There's nothing extra for you to do and no extra cost to you -just make your donation on line. Justgiving and that nice Mr. Gordon Brown do everything for us ! Lewis Kent, the Treasurer of Oakley Holidays, will ensure that all the money goes to our nominated good causes.
We hope you'll sponsor us on line - don't be anonymous and leave us a message !!! We will keep the page up dated and it will be open until the end of August.
Many thanks for your support,
Athers, Ed, George and Julian
