Story
The Cause
It costs Warrington breast screening centre £8,000 to supply mastectomy bras for all their patients undergoing treatment in a year. Mairi's mum, Pat, who works at the hospital came up with the idea of 'moobs & boobs' a team of family and friends who are coming together to raise money.
The unit offers amazing diagnostics and kind, compassionate care, but could do so much more with those 'above and beyond' things that the NHS doesn't fund. For example:
- First fit post-op bras at circa £58 each are provided by WHH Charity - so that ladies can have their prosthesis properly fitted at first appointment whether they can afford a mastectomy bra or not.
- Men get breast cancer too, but have to sit with all the ladies waiting for their results in a female dominated environment. Imagine having their own waiting space, where they can deal with what might follow away from inquiring glances.
As a team we're working towards our final challenge in June of a night climb of Snowdon, however, in the build up we're completing our own challenges along the way. All proceeds will get added to our total team fund and goal of raising £10,000 by June 2021.
-----Our October Challenge Kicking off the fundraising for team moobs & boobs, Meg and Mairi are took on a number of challenges in October:
1. Sober October (please appreciate how hard it was for 25 year olds to be sober for a month).
2. Winter Canoe Because who doesn't want to be in lovely warm Manchester water going in to winter. The girls canoed dressed as a giant bra.
3. 25mile Hike They girls completed a 25mile hike dressed up as two giant papier mache boobs.
4. Pink hair - Meg and Mairi dyed their hair bright pink!
