Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I know from personal experience that domestic violence can effect the lives of women and children of many different backgrounds. Even with supportive friends and family, and with your own finance it can be difficult to exit these difficult situations, and without these things it must often seem impossible. That is why the work of charities in this area is so vital.
MK ACT is the domestic violence service for Milton Keynes. It offers confidential advice, support and information to anyone in the community experiencing domestic abuse. It also provides emergency accommodation and support to women and their children escaping domestic abuse.
A brand new refuge is currently being built in Milton Keynes and is due to be ready in July 2011. It will provide 20 self-contained flats so that women and children escaping domestic violence will no longer have to share living space with other families in out-dated accommodation. Whilst the building itself is already funded, Milton Keynes Women’s Aid (MK ACT) will need to provide all the furnishings and equipment.
A starter pack, which includes basic cooking equipment, bedding, a toaster and kettle will cost £100, and I would like to try and raise £2,000 to buy one of these for each of the flats. If we raise anymore we can move on to irons, and ironing boards or furniture!
Please help me to support this really important cause.
