Story

As some of you will know - I'm a bit partial to a challenge.... over the years I've done a marathon on a rowing machine, I've done the Manchester Marathon, a Triathlon, and a few half marathons. I've raised money for Cancer Research and Macmillan support, but unfortunately it appears that cancer hasn't taken the hint that it is not wanted, and still continues to blight people's lives.  And now it has appeared a bit closer to home.

About 8 or 9 years ago, my Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. It was monitored for a while, and then the decision was taken to treat it in 2015. A successful round of High frequency ultrasound sent it into remission, and he's been clear since then. But this year, the cancer has returned, and now the treatment is a bit more intense. Dad has got quite a few months of treatment to go through over the next year. I live too far away from him to support in practical ways, such as visits, cakes, transport to appointments, but I wanted him to know that I was with him in spirit. So, whilst he is undergoing his treatments, I'm planning to undertake a series of challenges. There will be something every month, starting in December, and carrying on for a year, or as long as it takes for Dad's treatment, whichever is longer. I'm calling it Go Mad for Dad, and I'd be hugely grateful for any support you can give me. There will be some challenges that people might want to take on with me, or it might be with a donation - Prostate Cancer UK being the obvious recipient.

My list of challenges is not complete, and subject to change, but the first 6 months is likely to look something like this:

December:  The Marcothon - run 5k a day ( every day, including xmas. No excuses) ( Edit - Complete. Ran just over 100Miles in December)
January: Dry january ( no alcohol, not even a little bit - probably the toughest challenge of the lot!)( Edit - Complete. Now I need a beer!)
February: 30 days of burpees ( yes, I know that's more days than in the month, but I'll start it at the end of Jan) (Edit - Complete 1088 burpees in total)
March: Liverpool Half Marathon (Edit - Complete - PB 1:38.12)

April: Width of Wales cycle ride ( Chester to South Stack Lighthouse)(Edit - complete. 6hr40 moving time)

May: 1 Month daily plank challenge

July :Yorkshire 3 peaks walk.

September: Tennis Challenge

October: Buttermere ridge walk
