Story

I'm taking part in Tough Mudder which is a hardcore 12 mile-long obstacle courses designed by the Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Im also taking part in the colchester half marathon which 13 miles of hilly running.

I've decided to take part in these events to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. The reason I've chosen CF is because a very close friend of mine (April Cranfield) suffers with this disease. For many years she has supported me with my health issues (Epilepsy) despite being very unwell herself. Even in her most unwell moments she still manages to smile, this has truly inspired me to get passed my illness and now raise money for her charity.

In basic terms Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a disease that causes the body to make thick, sticky mucus. This causes problems in two major areas: the lungs and the digestive system.

Here's just some of what April has to do each and every day to sustain as a normal life as possible. When you have CF the pancreas doesn't work meaning that she must take tablets before every meal she eats, this is to digest her food for her. This can be anywhere from 2-20 per meal and up to 13 tablets every morning and 11 every evening. As well as a minimum of two nebulisers a day and injecting insulin after every meal.

Because of these major areas that are affected it also causes CF related Diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver, CF related arthritis, scoliosis of the spine, reproduction problems and continuous hospital treatment throughout life.
