Team: Remembering Carol Hughes
Hi, my name is John Hughes and I will be the first person to cycle to all the Maggie's Centres in the UK.
My late wife, Carol Hughes (Cassie), developed breast cancer in 1983 just after we met. Carol had five episodes of the cancer and it once again reared its ugly head late last year. Following this last episode, the cancer spread to her kidneys and she lost her long brave battle in April of this year.
I myself had bowel cancer in 2009. Fortunately all appears well with me and my last scan was clear.
Both Carol and myself are passionate supporters of Maggie's and I have decided to do a bike ride to all the Maggie's Centres in the UK. Starting on Friday 18th July in Swansea at the South West Wales Maggie's Centre and finishing three weeks, 14 Maggie's Centres and over 1,000 miles later in Inverness at the Maggie's Highlands Centre.
I want to do this for two reasons. Firstly to celebrate Carol's life and how she fought the cancer so bravely over the years. And secondly, to raise funds for Maggie's to help in the growth of such a wonderful service.
So I would like to ask you if you would please give whatever you can, however small.
Thank you so much. John
