Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Richard Brown, our Area Sales Managers (covering the North and Scotland) wife, Isabell Stoddart sadly lost her battle with cancer. Please read Richard's story below and any donations will be greatly received.

I’m very grateful that my employer, Maidaid Halcyon, has decided to hold a coffee morning in memory of my late wife, Isabell Stoddart. Isabell was a fun loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, great aunt and friend to many. She will be remembered by many in my industry, foodservice equipment supply, from her many years working at the then Falcon Catering Equipment and more recently, Vision Commercial Kitchens.

On 28th January 2022 Isabell, my partner of twenty plus years, was unexpectedly diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer. Later she was given a terminal prognosis but it was expected that treatment, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, might extend her life.

We were married on 19th March. Regrettably the treatment didn’t work; it made her feel terrible and the cancer continued to spread. On 15th July, before new treatment had started, she was admitted to hospital with a severe pneumonia infection. She died with me by her bedside, holding her hand, in the early hours of 19th July.

Macmillan Cancer Support were by our side, often literally, throughout this whole, traumatic period. In the early days they provided procedural and financial advice, later they formed a vital link between the NHS and us. Throughout they provided practical advice and support in a professional, caring and compassionate manner. Ultimately, they were involved in end-of-life decisions which helped to ensure that Isabell was able to die peacefully and with dignity.

Macmillan Cancer Support offer a vital service to cancer patients, their family and friends. I am proud to support their work and would encourage others to do the same.
