ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

UPDATE 4/10/20

OK! It's duathlon time! Sunday 11/10/20 is the new date for my second duathlon.  A few pals are coming along for the ride thank goodness.

So once again,  thanks for all the generous donations so far. And wish us luck!

UPDATE  21/3/20

To begin I just want to thank all who've donated to this astonishing total! It means so much to me, Edwyn, Melissa and so many more. This will make such an invaluable difference to the charity. THANK YOU x

Last weekend's duathlon went better than expected as I completed in the fairly respectable time of 2hrs 26mins. It's also surprisingly given me a new found enthusiasm for road biking. Thanks Angharad and Owen x

Edwyn (photo) has been suffering with this disease since 22nd March 2019. At 15yrs old his whole life is on hold.  At a time when he and his peers would be exploring and finding their passions and interests as well as studying for their GCSEs this high achieving cheeky chap struggles to function and is virtually housebound. Even his favourite pass times like reading and drawing are too strenuous an activity to perform.

With his recent diagnosis of M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) there is still no specific treatment that can relieve his symptoms and certainly no cure for this disease.

Edwyn's mum and I have been friends since school and I really want to help him have some quality of life. Raising funds for research seems the only way I can do that. So I will challenge myself to complete both the Wildflower Duathlon at the National Botanical Gardens on 15th March 2020 and the Mumbles Duathlon on the 21st March 2020. Totalling 62k of cycling and 20k of running around our beautiful hilly countryside. It's no iron man but neither am I! Since I'm not fond of cycling this may take some time!

Please donate to this vital research.

Thanks,

Mair

Diolch i MP Ben Lake a'i swyddfa am y cyfieithiad yma........

Mae Edwyn (uchod) wedi bod yn dioddef gyda'r cyflwr hwn ers 22 Mawrth 2019. Yn 15 oed mae ei fywyd cyfan wedi cael ei effeithio. Tra fod ei gyfoedion yn mwynhau ac yn dod o hyd i'w hunan a'u diddordebau, yn ogystal ag astudio ar gyfer eu TGAU, mae Edwyn yn brwydro’n ddyddiol yn erbyn y cyflwr creulon yma, ac mae bron yn gaeth i'w gartref. Mae hyd yn oed ei ddiddordebau fel darllen a darlunio, yn weithgaredd rhy egnïol i'w berfformio.

Gyda’i ddiagnosis diweddar o M.E. (Enseffalomyelitis Myalgig) nid oes triniaeth benodol o hyd a all leddfu ei symptomau, ac yn sicr dim iachâd ar gyfer y clefyd hwn.

Mae mam Edwyn a minnau wedi bod yn ffrindiau ers yr ysgol ac rydw i wir eisiau ei helpu i gael rhywfaint o ansawdd bywyd. Mae’n ymddangos mae codi arian ar gyfer ymchwil yw'r unig ffordd y gallaf wneud hynny. Felly byddaf yn herio fy hun i gwblhau'r Duathlon Blodau Gwyllt yn y Gerddi Botaneg Cenedlaethol ar 15fed Mawrth 2020 a Duathlon y Mwmbwls ar 21ain Mawrth 2020. Cyfanswm o 62k o feicio ac 20k o redeg o amgylch ein cefn gwlad hardd. Gan nad ydw i'n hoff o feicio gallai hyn fod yn anodd.

Cyfrannwch i helpu'r ymchwil hanfodol hon.

Diolch.”

Here are some eye openers into a forgotten disease:

"....doctors do not treat us and science does not study us. How could a disease this common and this devastating have been forgotten by medicine?" Jennifer Brea ME Research UK believes that only biomedical research can find the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and, ultimately, arrive at a cure. That’s why research is our focus. We've awarded 48 grants since 2000 and invested over £1.5million. But research is expensive and becoming more so every day. That’s the challenge we face, and that’s why we need your help.
