Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I ran just over half a marathon (21.8km, 13.5 miles) in order to raise some funds for our incredible NHS workers in a time when they rely on the support, both financially and emotionally, of ordinary people like each and every one of us.
I was just on my daily run, thinking about how much pressure that NHS workers are under at the moment, putting themselves at risk in order to help the most vulnerable in our society. It suddenly came to me that I could, on that day, run a half marathon in the hope of doing my bit to help out in the current pandemic crisis.
Because this was not a planned event, I did it with minimal training - just a few previous daily runs of around 8 kilometres. However, I did not want to simply limit myself to what I ran normally. I wanted to push myself to do something I was proud of, showing just a fraction of the self-discipline, courage and bravery of the workers helping to keep our citizens as healthy and safe as they can.
I knew that my timing would be below average due to the lack of training but that wasn't something I was focusing on. Instead, in order to keep going, I thought of how hard it must be to work in the wards of our underfunded hospitals, and just tried to keep pushing on. In homage to our nurses. In homage to our doctors. In homage to our healthcare workers.
Hopefully, the donations that are raised will help to make a lasting impact on our community, and can be used to benefit emergency care in the hospitals in my local area, the North West of London.
