The new Southern University Hospital in Glasgow opens in June but unfortunately they don't have any room for the radio station meaning that we have to come into the big bad world and fight for survival. Our current premises are rent free as they are within the old hospital but it is being demolished and we'd be propping up the new car park if we stay!

Southern Sound isn't just another radio station playing to small audiences. It provides free access for the major charities such as MacMillan to advertise their services so that patients who may need their help know where to go and who to contact. Also a great deal of NHS information is passed directly to patients via the station.

All the people who work for the station are volunteers. Nobody is paid a penny and a couple of the guys who do all the techy stuff behind the scenes have been at the station for years. They won't thank me for saying so but they are hugely dedicated and fight against some pretty serious personal difficulties to keep the station going.

So from 8am Saturday morning 21st Feb until 9am on Sunday 22nd Feb I will be broadcasting live non-stop to try and raise some funds so that we can find new premises.

MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS HAVE ALREADY CONTRIBUTED £100 POUNDS OF THEIR OWN MONEY TO THE APPEAL AND I MANANGED TO GET £500 OF SPONSORSHIP BUT WE NEED A BIT MORE AND I'M DESPEARTELY HOPING YOU CAN HELP.

All I'm asking for from you is just £2. That's it. Just £2. We obviously don't have the clout of a MacMillan or Cancer Research, but our needs are nowhere near as great either, hence me just asking for £2. By all means feel free to give more, but quite seriously £2 would be fantastic.

Oh and by the way, the first 12 hours of the broadcast will be absolute torture for me. Playing the top 136 best selling singles of all time. What ever was I thinking?  I should get danger money for doing that!
