Cross Britain Way - from Boston to Barmouth · 23 April 2022

The Church of St Guthlac has been a focal point in the village of Stathern for over 800 years. The precious Grade 2* listed building is a lasting testimony to our rural way of life which is constantly under threat. It is a place of celebration, at the heart of the lives of the village community, our school and our families. But our Church desperately needs your support. Over many years the structural integrity of the church has been under strain and now a number of cracks have appeared in the church wall, including a long vertical crack in the south wall, near the altar, which is a particular concern. Your generous donations will go towards the specialist restoration work required to bring this historic building to its former glory. Only with your support can we ensure that this beautiful building will continue to provide a place of peace and hope for generations to come for the wider community and people of Stathern. Thank you…

Story

I am walking across Britain on the Cross Britain Way from 30th April-22nd May. It is 280 miles and will be a challenge. As well as giving myself a bit of exercise I am raising money for two charities: St Guthlac's Church, Stathern and The Avenue School, Brent, a school for pupils with special educational needs, where my daughter, Jess, works.  Donations on this page will all go to St Guthlac's.

St Guthlac's Church is a beautiful medieval building at the heart of the village. Built of local sandstone, the cost of maintaining and repairing the church is an increasing responsibility for a small village. Its chancel is in urgent need of repair.
