Story
Many of you will know that we lost my dad in October 2020 after a 12 month battle with Cancer.
During this time we were so lucky to be able to speak with Dad about everything, the future / the past / how we felt and above all the importance of moving forward irrespective of circumstance...
It was a total honour to have been able to support & care for Dad at home in York with my mum sisters & brothers! I distinctly remember calling a Macmillan Nurse which grounded me in terms of the road ahead .......
As a family we laughed / cried / joked - & even though Dad was suffering so much, "he was at home" & remained there throughout 2020 with the support of a team of very special people......
Dad just wanted to make sure everyone else was going to be okay so i helped him & re assured him I would do my absolute best to ensure that happened.....
This event is to raise money to support others that may one day meet darkness & need a light at the end of a long tunnel to pull them through......
Thank-you Macmillan & thank-you to my amazing wife / Sister & family in York along with all the friends that helped carry us through 2019 / 2020 & beyond......XXXXXXX
Please dig as deep as I will be doing in the - SWIM / BIKE / RUN - on the 25th July at CASTLE HOWARD in honour of what a great man my Dad was & this charity.
I have also set a page up for St Leonards hospice in York if people would preferably like to donate to them !? They were truly outstanding in caring for dad & i have no doubt we would not have had the time with Dad at home if it hadnt been for the staff at that amazing place !
Many thanks,
Dan Shorrock

Note:
I was 11 in the atached picture & we had just cycled from Harrogate to Clitheroe to my Uncle Peters at the start of the school holidays ! As you can see we had all the correct safety gear in 1985 ! + a rucksack with tuna sarnies & a bag of crisps for energy !
