Story

Hi,

Not many people know this but my dad (Nigel Soley) has been diagnosed with Dementia, this has come about through my dad suffering over a dozen Strokes.

My Dad has early onset Dementia, which basically means he is very young to have it, which is rare for his age. Even thou my Dad was only diagnosed around 2 years ago, he may of had this for well over 10 years.

As part of the Worcestershire health & care NHS trust, they have a supportive group which works with people with young onset Dementia,

This group has transformed my Dad back into the Dad we all know and really built up his confidence, built it up so far that because of the fantastic work they do, they have my dad doing talks with Senior Doctors, champion nurses and health care personnel who care for and understand those living with early onset dementia who have to be admitted into a hospital for whatever reason, can be understanding and help make their stay in hospital as good as possible. Also explaining what it is like living well with dementia daily.

My dad, with the help from dementia professionals and the trust hopes to give talks to nhs staff around the midlands, also he has given permission for the nhs trust to use the film taken of his talks for training staff.

All money raised through this site will go direct to the young onset dementia group through the Worcestershire Health & care NHS Trust.

Here is a statement from the young onset dementia group about what they do -

The Worcestershire Young Onset Dementia Trust Fund was set up under Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust so that money can be used to support services for younger people living with dementia, their families and those who support and care for them. Money from the Trust Fund is used to pay for transport to groups, venue hire for groups, activities at groups and on occasion for staff training.

I can't cure this but what I can do is ride a bike and by doing this hopefully will raise some money and awareness for this charity so they can continue to give the amazing support they currently do for my Dad and many others.
