This is my forth charity challenge which I have organised (with a massive team of friends)!! It took a while to think of a charity this time, until I saw an article on LinkedIn by the charity Each, it broke my heart putting myself in the shoes of the parents of children with life long illness. Having a 7 year old daughter, I couldn't bare to think how I would cope. Each, deliver an amazing service to families and children who are really in need of it. Couldn't think of a better charity to raise some money for.
What is the challenge I hear you say........
Myself and two good friends will be paddling 7 kilometre laps of the river Dart for 24 hours, the river Dart is located high up on Dartmouth Devon.....
We will be paddling through the night, in any weather conditions which will be thrown at us, whether its rain, snow or freezing conditions... probably all of them together!!
The challenge doesn't stop there..... the section of River we will be lapping is the Upper Dart, this section is enough to test most seasoned white water paddlers in the day light doing a couple of laps.
It's going to be very tough mentally and physically.....
Each rely heavily on voluntary donations to support the services that they are able to offer to families, children and young people with life-threatening conditions.
All of Each's support is provided free of charge and this year they will need to raise £6.4 million from fundraising and £4.9 million in income from their shops.
There are an estimated 49,000 children and young people in the UK living with a life-threatening or life-limiting condition that may require palliative care services. Caring for a child or young person with a life-threatening illness, often for 24 hours a day seven days a week, can put a huge strain on family life. Life can become governed by the timetable of nursing and medical needs.
Careers may have to be put on hold, healthy brothers and sisters can feel left out and regular family activities and holidays can be rare. During all of this, families are going through a process of grieving.
Each's care and support is tailored for the needs of all family members and delivered where the families wish – in their own home, at hospital, in the community or at one of three hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Norfolk.
They currently care for 366 children and young people and 370 family members receiving face-to-face support.
Each's family centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management nursing, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies, counselling and volunteer services in the family home; all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family.
Together we can make a difference to the lives of families across East Anglia and the UK by giving a few pounds.
