Manchester to Donegal in 7 days for Motor Neurones · 1 September 2023

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by this terminal condition. The Association cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but we can alleviate the feelings of isolation and frustration. We offer consistent support to approximately 400 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stages of their journey and we are here to help and guide them every step of the way. The services provided by the IMNDA are immediate and free of charge for everyone registered with the Association. Key services include: • Access to 4 outreach nurses directly employed by the IMNDA and funded entirely by donations. • Access to a home care grant. • Access to specialised equipment on loan (e.g. wheelchairs, hoists, communication aids etc). • Access to funding towards counselling sessions for the person with MND and family members. Your support is absolutely vital. More than 86% of our income comes from fundraising and donations.

Story

Thank you for clicking on our just giving page. We are Jud and Alex and on Saturday 26th August we plan to run from Manchester to Donegal, Ireland to raise funds for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA)

Inspired by Kevin Sinfield's 7 in 7 in support of Rob Burrows (former Leeds Rhinos rugby player) we are aiming to run 182 miles in 7 days from Manchester to Donegal on the West Coast of Ireland, home to Gerry Sheerin who we are dedicating this run to. The distance each day will be roughly the length of a marathon (26 miles), therefore in essence, we will be running 7 marathons in 7 days. The overall elevation gain (height) for this entire run is nearly 6 times the height of the Eiffel Tower!

With Motor Neurone Disease, known as MND, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can have a devastating affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Not all symptoms will affect everyone, or in the same order. Symptoms also progress at varying speeds, which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict.

As a family, we are committed to raising awareness and funds for MND sufferers and their families who fight this disease everyday.
We are inspired by the courage and strength of Gerry, battling this devastating condition with his ongoing positive mindset and selfless attitude. By donating to IMNDA, we aim to assist them and their families in acquiring future devices that will enhance their quality of life and provide them with the tools they need to face the challenges of MND. Your generous contribution will make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by this relentless disease.
