Water for Life 2008 (complete)

Last Ramadan, Shaykh Yusuf Estes amazed the Muslim world, when he went on Islam channel - live TV - for his first ever - fund raising appeal - "Water for Life".

Everyone knows Shaykh Yusuf does not do fund raising. Worryingly for Islamic Relief, he even said he hated fundraisers.

 So what happened to change his mind?

He was simply shocked to learn of the desperate and dying people in Kenya, without any water.

Even though he was quite busy and of course fasting, still - he jumped in the first plane out to UK to join with Islamic Relief's effort to raise the money to bring clean water to these desperate people and their dying animals.

But, Shaykh Yusuf had one condition – and you heard it directly from him LIVE on Islam Channel...

"I won't give one penny - I won't tell one person, unless I can personally see with my own two eyes - the money goes into bringing water to East Africa"

Just weeks ago, Sheikh Yusuf Estes and his dear friend Shaykh Mutahhir Sabree, teamed up together with a delegation from Islamic Relief travelled to Mandera District, Kenya in East Africa to see for themselves - what has been done.

They had to brave hostile activities, face civil unrest, and endure the vision of pain and suffering of people, barely alive because they have no water.

The team journeyed to remote villages and grass huts scattered about in the red sands and blowing winds of this most desolate place.

After days and nights of living in a land with little food, little water and little hope – Shaykh Yusuf, along with Shaykh Mutahhir Sabree - bring back the full progress report on - "WATER FOR LIFE" project in Kenya, East Africa.

Before we could celebrate the success of bringing water to these people and their livestock – we saw another reality - as the poor, hungry and thirsty villagers from nearby areas came stumbling into their camps begging for water, children in despair, animals helpless and falling to the ground for lack of water. Dying in front of our eyes.

Shaykh Yusuf and Shaykh Mutahhir were not prepared for sights like this. It was too unbearable. Women sighing, children crying, livestock dying. Where is the hope?

And yet, there is still hope. It is once again, time for Ramadan. People are fasting, praying and asking for ways to give acceptable charity that really will make a difference in someone's lives.

It is with this firm resolve that we present to you, Shaykh Yusuf Estes and Shaykh Mutahhir Sabree - with "Water for More Life" ....
