I've chosen Tommy's because I know that I'm extremely fortunate to have two rainbow babies.

We fully expected to have a healthy baby within a year of getting married in 1985. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out that way. We suffered a few years of infertility problems and investigations with no explanation as to why I wasn't getting pregnant. We got to a point of giving up and thinking that IVF or adoption would be our only options of having a family. 

That's when I fell pregnant for the first time. I still remember watching that line turn blue and a feeling of disbelief. For a couple of weeks, we lived in an exciting little bubble. That bubble burst in the back of an ambulance on my way to a hospital that was a long way from home. We were devastated but had been given a glimmer of hope. I suffered two more miscarriages before becoming pregnant for the fourth time. As a trial, I was admitted to hospital for 10 weeks of bed rest. It was incredibly boring but worth it for our precious eldest daughter to arrive safely on May 24th 1990. We were very lucky that our youngest daughter swiftly followed in October 1991.

I saw this half marathon advertised a few months ago and thought that I'd love to have a charity place as both a personal challenge and a way of supporting a charity that I wish had been around in our first months of trying for a baby.

The challenge for me is running a half marathon. I've achieved couch to 10k in 6 months. I'm slow but I really enjoy that burst of endorphins at the end of a run. Some say I'm stubborn, I say determined, so I'll definitely achieve a half marathon.I just hope that I cross the line before the road sweepers at the end of the race!!

Tommy's provide support for those parents who simply want to take a healthy baby home, they are there to try to answer the questions of why a full term baby was born sleeping and they challenge the stigma around baby loss.
