Cycle 2 Zero South Africa 2018 · 5 August 2018
Dear friends and family,
In October, we will be putting on our lycras to participate in the Cycle2Zero, a four-day cycle through the beautiful Eastern Cape of South Africa visiting clinics and sites along the way, raising valuable funds to ensure no mother dies of AIDS, no baby is born with HIV, and that an HIV-free generation becomes a reality in sub-Saharan Africa.
Each day almost 200 children are infected with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. Without treatment, approximately one third of these children will die by their first birthday, and half will die by the age of two. With treatment, however, the transmission of HIV from a mother to her baby is almost entirely preventable.
Over the past 15 years, mothers2mothers (m2m) has reached 1.5 million HIV-positive women with life-saving education services and medical care. m2m train, employ and empower Mentor Mothers, who are mothers living with HIV, to work alongside doctors and nurses in understaffed health centers.
Every little bit helps. €30 is what it costs to get a women and her baby HIV-free. Together we can change the future, one family at a time.
Frank, Finn and Henry will not be able to participate in the cycle. Instead, they will explore the Eastern Cape, immersing themselves into local customs, culture, and traditions. They will get a chance to get up close and personal with Africa's most loved animals, and visit a community lodge where they will see first-hand how a small donation can make a big difference.
Thank you for your invaluable support to pedal towards our goal of zero transmission and an HIV-free generation.
Warmly,
Anna, Christian, Frank, Finn & Henry
