Story

Thank you for visiting the Woodchester Mansion Just Giving page.

Over the next 10 years we need £5m to complete conservation of this unparalleled Gothic Revival building.

The Mansion is special because it's a unique example of Victorian building methods. It was unfinished when work stopped in 1873, and little has changed since. It's the finest work of the young local architect Benjamin Bucknall, and has wonderful high quality carved stonework - including 43 animals!

Conservation of the leaky Cotswold slate roof and limestone damaged over the years by water ingress is needed. The chapel with its wonderful tierceron vault and carved ceiling bosses is at particular risk. In the servants’ quarters the brewery is also in poor condition.

Woodchester Mansion is open to the public in the summer season by volunteers on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 11am – 5pm. Visitors can see the work needed and progress on conservation, and learn why the Mansion was never finished! Guided tours are available and there is a café. Please see our website for details.

We hope you can help us – all contributions count towards our big project to conserve this matchless building.

THANK YOU.
