Story

Every journey begins with a step, and every challenge begins with a belief that the personal impossible is possible.

In April 2018, Adam and I will be taking part in the London Marathon to raise money for The Children’s Society.  This year Adam took the London Marathon journey by himself, and I stood on the side lines shouting him on: in 2018, we will run together.  I will be Adam’s handicap – I am not a natural nor a gifted runner, and he will be my support – also known as the one to drag me over the line.

So, why The Children’s Society?  The charity has been part of Adam’s journey since birth, they gave him his family, and since we have been together, we have supported this charity as a way of paying forward the good that they have afforded Adam in his life.  We are also supporting this charity because they form the shining beacon of hope over our journey through adoption – to have our family.  They may not be taking us directly through our journey, but they are an illustration of how positive placements, and positive influences, can and do have a positive impact on the lives of young people.

The Children’s Society shout for those whose voices cannot be heard; they advocate for those who need someone to advocate for them; and they work to stop the most vulnerable people in our society, children, from being vulnerable.

Our journey to getting our family started with a step, and we have many more to go.  Our journey to run the London Marathon 2018 will finish on the 22nd April 2018 after 55,334 steps.  Hopefully, our last step to getting our family will happen close to this time as well…and hopefully The Children’s Society will support more young people to take their first step to becoming safe, happy and optimistic for the future.

Update: Our Marathon journey is a physical challenge, but it signifies so much more for us. The last 16 weeks have been challenging due to injury, but now I've the all clear it is full steam ahead. The beauty of this challenge is that we are going to be going to adoption panel the day after Marathon, so completion is not just about getting over the finish line, it is going to be the start of our next journey 🤞
