Story
On October 17th 2014, our lives were changed forever by the tragic loss of Mike Thompson. Mike will always be remembered for his intelligent, ambitious, and light hearted nature, but those closest to him have been exposed to the upsetting truths of suicide in young adults, the greatest cause of death of young men (15-35) in the UK.
On Sunday 16th October 2016, we are running the Birmingham Half Marathon in memory of Mike. This date is particularly poignant as it is the day preceding the 2nd anniversary of his death. Zoe also completed this same event 2 days following Mike's death in 2014. Despite us having limited time to train due to work and family commitments, we are sure that with Mike's guidance and your support we will make it round!
Our chosen charity have comforted and supported Mike's family in their time of need. Survivors Of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) exist to meet the needs and break the isolation experience by those bereaved by suicide. They are a self help organisation and aim to provide a safe, confidential environment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings, so giving and gaining support from each other. They also strive to improve public awareness and maintain contacts with many other statutory and voluntary organisations. Check out their website www.uk-sobs.org.uk for more information.
