Story
Sadly Tony Dixon was taken from us in 2017 after a brave battle with bowel cancer. Last year his son Lee and friends completed a 60 mile plus trek on the east coast one of his favourite places raising over £2,000 in the process.
One of Tony’s other passions was watching Lee play football, Lee by his own admission wasn’t a bad little player. However, Lee was notorious for not moving from the half way line. So this year we’ve decided to get Lee and a select group of friends playing a 5-aside game with a difference. It’s a 12 hour marathon against 12 teams non stop with just a few substitutes. The select group of friends playing alongside Lee are certainly not athletes (full of dodgy ankles, hernias and protruding guts) but they will be training for it (that’s the plan).
The aim is to play 12 teams in 12 hours, survive, have some fun and raise money and awareness for Bowel cancer. Lee and co are still on the look out for some teams to fill places (teams with similar physical attributes most welcome).
The guys will be playing at goals Doncaster from 9am till 9pm on Saturday 13th October, please come down and cheer them on. I’m sure Tony will be looking down and supporting everyone involved, while handing out a few instructions to Lee.
There will no doubt be a few glasses raised and a bite to eat afterwards as well, so watch this space for further details.
We’re the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity.
We fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
We’re here to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
