We provide services to disabled people to improve independence and quality of life

Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.

I'm running my first marathon in London for local charity Hertfordshire Action on Disability (HAD). More about HAD on hadnet.org.uk

Last year I arranged two summer races to raise funds for HAD and Isabel Hospice . Working with HAD made me realise what an important service they provide for the elderly, disabled and less mobile. So despite a preference for 5K rather than 40K. I'm taking up a challenge from HAD to run at London and try and raise some funds. It's a great charity and one that we, or our close ones, may all need one day.

To add a twist as part of my 'training' programme I plan to run each of the 10 Hertfordshire parkruns in the 10 weeks leading up to the London Marathon on April 24th. That's me above with founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt when he visited our Panshanger parkrun (near Hertford).

As with parkrun the philosophy of HAD is about inclusiveness. It aims to ensure everyone has the best possible chance to live and participate in a full and fulfilling life.

HAD provides vital services for the elderly and disabled: accessible transport vehicles, personal assessments for mobility and household equipment, driving assessments & tuition, therapies and exceptional information & guidance. They provide the support needed to help regain and maintain independence and improve quality of life.

A simple donation can make all the difference to a small charity like HAD. Their existence is very much dependent on your support.

Just £20 could pay for a days fuel for our accessible mini bus; which is a crucial service for older and disabled people in our community. Without this many would not be able to make hospital appointments, get to work or travel at all.

Thank you, Gary
